*snerk* That’s funny! I was actually talking to my husband about how the English woman’s suffrage movement was barred in part because the male populous believed if women had the right to vote, then they would no longer be interested in getting married, staying home and having babies. They honestly believed women voting would put an end to England’s population.

So I wonder if the reason why the GOP is so worried about abortion, birth control, and homosexuality is because they’re afraid if women have the right to chose if/when they’re pregnant and homosexuals get to marry, that the hetero white American male will die out? Is that why they’re so gung-ho all of a sudden to put women barefoot and pregnant in the home again? The fear of “their kind” fizzling away to nothing?

Mars Rover Snaps Stunning Self-Portrait

NASA put together this artsy image of Mars rover Opportunity getting a glimpse of its own shadow on the rim of Endeavour Crater. The robotic geologist used its panoramic camera to take about a dozen shots using an assortment of filters between about 4:30 and 5 p.m. Mars time on March 9.

The images were transmitted back to Earth where a team of scientists assembled them into this mosaic, which was released Wednesday.

TPM’s Sahil Kapur looks at the numbers behind a recurrent theme of recent budget debates:

A dominant theme of the national political discourse has been the crushing spending spree the U.S. has ostensibly embarked on during the Obama presidency. That argument, ignited by Republicans and picked up by many elite opinion makers, has infused the national dialogue and shaped the public debate in nearly every major budget battle of the last thee years.

But the numbers tell a different story.

The fact that the national debt has risen from $10.6 trillion to $15.6 trillion under Obama’s watch makes for easy partisan attacks. But the vast bulk of the increase was caused by a combination of revenue losses due to the 2008-09 economic downturn as well as Bush-era tax cuts and automatic increases in safety-net spending that were already written into law.

Obama’s policies, including the much-criticized stimulus package, have caused the slowest increase in federal spending of any president in almost 60 nears, according to data compiled by the financial news service MarketWatch.

A ‘Giant Leap’ for Commercial Space

The first of two companies hired by NASA to fly cargo to the International Space Station is preparing for a test flight on Saturday, a harbinger of a new type of public-private partnership.

“It is, by all accounts, an important step, bordering on a giant leap, for commercial space,” said Michael Lopez-Alegria, a former astronaut who now heads the Commercial Spaceflight Federation trade organization.

“We are at a brink of a milestone moment in our space history,” added NASA deputy administrator Lori Garver.

Like the TARDIS, the PS3 is “bigger on the inside,” capable of holding an entirely new Doctor Who adventure within its slim casing. The BBC announced that Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be released “globally” on PlayStation Network Wednesday, May 23, and in UK retail the following Friday. “We really appreciate your patience as we’ve been making sure the game is perfect for all you eager fans,” said executive producer Simon Harris, referencing the two-month delay of the game, which made the title unfortunately ironic.

The brief announcement on the PlayStation Blog did not offer any release dates for the announced PC or PlayStation Vita versions.

Oooh, heck with Diablo III, I’m waiting for this one… :D

The silhouette on the shooting target is faceless. But the hoodie, the Skittles and the iced tea leave nothing to the imagination. This is meant to be Travyon Martin, the unarmed 17-year-old shot to death in February in Sanford, Florida.
Skittles brand candy is clearly depicted on the targets. The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, a division of Mars Inc., produces and markets Skittles. They could stop the sale of these targets by taking legal action against the Hiller Armament Company, which sells the targets online.

This is one of the most reprehensible, indefensible, and disgusting things I have ever seen in my life. I can’t believe someone at the Hiller Armament Company thought this was okay.

Basic human decency says we need to stop this.
